Book with a name

A book with a name in it

A book with a name is not a template with a name dropped into it here. The story is written around that name, and the main character is drawn to look like the real one. For children, and just as much for a wedding, a farewell or an anniversary.

Any name

long or unusual is fine

What a book with a name is, and is not

There are two kinds. With most providers the story already exists and your name is put where the old one was. It reads well, but the neighbours have the same book. Here the story does not exist yet: you say what it should be about, and we write and illustrate it afterwards.

Personalisation happens on four levels at once: the name runs through the whole story rather than sitting on page one, the appearance comes back in every illustration, side characters such as siblings, grandparents or the dog can join in, and you decide what happens. What that looks like for a child is on the page about a personalised children’s book.

A book with a name does not have to be about a child. For grown-ups we make books from your own photos: a wedding book, a farewell book or a corporate book. The full range is at the book types.

And what it is not for: under about eighteen months a child gets more out of a board book than out of a story, and if you want an existing book with a name printed into it, a bookshop will be quicker.

What a book with a name is, and is not

What is the book going to be about?

Start with your own idea, or pick a storyline to build on. Either way it is waiting for you in the form, and you can rewrite the text however you like.

Write your own story

This is what makes a book with a name different here: the story is not fixed. Write down in a few sentences what should happen and we turn it into a book.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a book with a name and a personalised book?

People use both for the same thing. What matters is how deep the name goes. In a template book the name is slotted into fixed places; here the story is written around it, and the main character on the illustrations changes too.

Does any name fit, even a long or unusual one?

Yes. The text is written around the name, so length is not a problem and nothing has to be shortened. Names with accents or a hyphen go in exactly as you type them.

Can more than one name be in the book?

Yes, and everyone gets a part rather than a mention. Brothers and sisters, parents, grandparents or the pet can appear in the text and in the illustrations.

How recognisable does the main character get?

You describe the appearance, and you can upload a photo. With a photo the illustrations really do look like the person; without one it stays with what you describe. A photo helps, but is not needed.

What does it cost and how quickly does it arrive?

Making the book and viewing the full preview is free. As a premium hardcover it is printed after your approval and delivered within eight working days. The current price is at the top of this page.

Can I see the book before I decide?

Yes, and that is the point. You see the whole book in a free preview, page by page, and you can adjust text and illustrations until it is right. If it is not what you hoped, you simply do not order.
