Why ordinary days make the best story

What a child remembers about their grandparents is rarely a day out. It is the regular day: the breakfast that isn't allowed at home, the game only the two of them know the rules to, the dog that is allowed on the sofa. Those are exactly the things nobody ever writes down.

This book writes them down. The grandchild is the main character, grandma and grandpa play the biggest supporting roles, and the story is about what you really do together. Tell us in a few sentences what one of those days looks like; the more specific, the more it feels like your own book.

It works both ways. Parents give it to the grandparents on behalf of a child who can't write yet, as a thank-you for all the babysitting days. And grandparents make it themselves for their grandchild, to read aloud at the next sleepover. More ideas for that second kind are in our blog post about gifts from grandparents.

Add a few photos and grandma, grandpa and the child will look like themselves. You see the book in a free preview first, page by page, and only order once it's right. Then it is printed as a premium hardcover of 21 by 21 cm and arrives within eight working days.

Questions about the grandparents book

Is the book for the grandchild or for the grandparents?

Either works. In most stories the grandchild is the main character and grandma and grandpa join in; that kind of book is for reading together. Some stories are meant for grandma or grandpa themselves, as a thank-you from the child. Each card above says who the story is about.

Can grandparents make the book themselves?

Yes. All you need are the names and a few sentences about what you do together. Add photos if you like. You see the whole book for free before you pay anything.

Will grandma and grandpa really look like themselves?

With a few clear photos we draw grandma, grandpa and the child with their own faces, hair and glasses. You see the result in the preview, and if something isn't right you can have a page adjusted before you order.

Can all the grandchildren be in one book?

Yes, you can add several children. They all get a part in the story and appear together in the pictures.

Is there a special day for grandparents?

In the US, National Grandparents Day is the first Sunday after Labor Day, in September. The UK has a Grandparents' Day in early October, although few people mark it. Most grandparent books are given for a birthday, at Christmas, as a thank-you for the babysitting, or when someone becomes a grandparent for the first time.

Can I order more than one copy?

Yes. Many customers order one for home and one for the grandparents' house, or one for each side of the family. You choose the number at checkout.
