First Communion

A First Communion gift with their name in it

Unlike a christening, the child is old enough to remember all of it: the nerves beforehand, the rehearsals in church, the family who travelled a long way. A book about that day gets read straight away, and again in ten years.

Age 7 to 9

they read it themselves

Why this age changes what a book can be

A seven or eight year old reads by themselves. That changes what a gift book is: where a christening book waits years to be read, this one is opened the same week. And the child can argue with what is in it, because they were there.

So our storylines are not about the meaning of the sacrament but about the day: being awake far too early, the rehearsals, the fear of tripping in front of the whole family, and the group of children you prepared with for months. Those are the things a child remembers.

We write about what happens and who is there, not about doctrine. That is deliberate: the same book then works in a family that goes every Sunday and in a family that goes once.

On the last page you can have your own words set. A line from the godparents, or simply the date and who was there. You can also leave that page empty.

The book takes about half an hour to make and you see it immediately in a free preview, page by page. Only when it is right does it go to print, arriving within eight working days.

Why this age changes what a book can be

"Echt heel leuk! Onze dochters vonden het fantastisch. Je kan heel eenvoudig je eigen boekje maken en de kwaliteit is echt heel goed."

Frequently asked questions

Is a picture book not too young for this age?

That depends on the story, not the format. A seven year old reads it themselves, and because it is about their own day it holds their attention. Pick a storyline with real tension and it does not feel babyish.

How religious is the text?

Our stories are about the day rather than the doctrine: the nerves, the rehearsals, the family, the party. What goes in is up to you, since the text is editable in the form.

Can I give it as a godparent?

It suits that well. You can have your own message set on the last page, and godparents can appear in the story itself.

How quickly will it arrive?

About half an hour to make, and you see it in the preview immediately. As a hardcover it is printed after your approval and delivered within eight working days.

What if it is not what I hoped for?

Then you do not order it. You see the complete book in a free preview before anything is printed, and you can adjust text and illustrations until it is right.
